INB on Your Credit Report

In short: INB traces its charter to 1905 and appears in the FDIC's records under certificate 3664, a national bank chartered by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and a member of the Federal Reserve System with its headquarters in Springfield, IL. The most recent call report, dated 06/30/2026, puts it at $2.7 billion in total assets across 14 FDIC-reported offices. Because INB is the original creditor rather than an assignee, it is the furnisher of record — and FCRA §623 puts the duty to report accurately on the furnisher. Information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable can be disputed under the FCRA. Outcomes depend on what the furnisher can verify, and results vary.

What makes this creditor different

Chartered January 1, 1905 and insured under FDIC certificate 3664, INB reported $2.7 billion in total assets and 14 FDIC-reported offices on its 06/30/2026 call report. That is about $192 million per reported office across its IL footprint.

How INB appears on your credit report

INB is a community-scale lender headquartered in Springfield, IL, with 14 FDIC-reported offices and $2.7 billion in assets, on a charter 121 years old. At this size a single account is often handled by a small team, which cuts both ways — errors are less likely to be systemic, but when one occurs there may be no automated process to catch it. A precise written dispute naming the exact field that is wrong tends to work better here than a general statement of disagreement.

Products that commonly show up

  • ◆Auto and other secured consumer loans booked at INB offices
  • ◆Deposit accounts charged off to a negative balance
  • ◆Construction and lot loans that convert to permanent financing

Grounds to dispute a INB entry

Each of these is a reason a INB tradeline may be inaccurate or unverifiable. None of them assures removal — they are the angles worth checking on your own report.

  • ◆Business loan reporting on a personal credit file with no personal pledge on record
  • ◆Paid-off INB installment loan still showing a balance after the final payment cleared
  • ◆Authorised-user or co-borrower account reported as the primary obligation
  • ◆Account balance or credit limit reported incorrectly
  • ◆Payment reported late when it was made inside the grace period
  • ◆Date of first delinquency re-aged to extend how long it can report
  • ◆Account still reporting as open after it was closed, or vice versa
  • ◆Duplicate tradeline for the same account after an internal transfer
  • ◆Account belongs to someone else with a similar name, or is the result of identity theft

Disputing an original creditor is not the same as disputing a collector

INB is an original creditor — the institution whose name was on the account when it was opened. That matters for two reasons. First, the FDCPA, which governs debt collectors, generally does not apply to a creditor collecting its own debt in its own name, so the “debt validation” request that works against a collection agency is not the right tool here. Second, as the furnisher of the tradeline, INB has direct obligations under FCRA §623 to investigate a dispute you send it and to correct or delete information it cannot verify as accurate.

Dispute with the bureaus — FCRA §611

File with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. They must generally investigate within 30 days and tell the furnisher. Free, and you can do it yourself.

Dispute with the furnisher — FCRA §623

Send INB a direct written dispute. It must investigate and must not continue reporting information it knows is inaccurate. Keep copies and proof of delivery.

INB questions, answered

Is INB FDIC-insured, and what is its certificate number?

Yes. INB holds FDIC certificate 3664. The FDIC record shows a charter established January 1, 1905, headquarters in Springfield, IL, and 14 FDIC-reported offices with $2.7 billion in total assets as of the 06/30/2026 call report. It is a national bank chartered by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and a member of the Federal Reserve System.

Who regulates INB, and where do I escalate if a dispute fails?

INB is a national bank, so its primary federal regulator is the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency rather than the FDIC. If a dispute with the bank and with the credit bureaus both fail, the OCC operates its own consumer-complaint process (HelpWithMyBank.gov) for national banks, and the CFPB accepts complaints as well. Choosing the right regulator does not change your FCRA rights, but it does route the complaint to the agency that actually supervises INB.

How old is the INB charter, and why does that matter for my credit report?

INB was chartered in 1905, before or around the creation of federal deposit insurance in 1933. Institutions of this vintage have usually absorbed other banks along the way, which matters on a credit report because an account can still carry a predecessor's name in the furnisher field. If the name on the tradeline does not match the bank you deal with today, that is worth clarifying in writing before disputing the substance.

How big is INB, and what does that mean for disputing an account?

INB reports $2.7 billion across 14 FDIC-reported offices — roughly $192 million per office. The FDIC's office figure counts all reported locations, including non-retail ones such as loan-production sites, so it should be read as a reported footprint rather than a branch count. For a dispute, the practical point is that an institution this size normally handles consumer files with identifiable staff rather than a fully automated queue.

How do I dispute an INB account on my credit report?

You have two free routes and you can use both yourself without paying anyone. Under FCRA §611 you may dispute with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, and under FCRA §623 you may dispute directly with INB as the furnisher. Put it in writing, identify the account by its last four digits and open date, state specifically what is inaccurate rather than simply saying you disagree, and keep copies and proof of delivery. Whether an item changes depends entirely on what INB can verify, and results vary from case to case.

Does IL law change anything about an INB account?

Keep two clocks separate. The FCRA reporting window is federal and does not vary by state. Your state's statute of limitations — how long anyone can successfully sue you — is separate and independent: a debt can be too old to sue over yet still report legitimately, or drop off your report while remaining collectable. INB being headquartered in Springfield, IL does not make IL law automatically yours; the limitation period usually follows where you live and what the contract says. Check your own state's rule, and note that making a payment restarts that clock in many states.

How long can an INB account stay on my credit report?

Generally up to seven years from the date of first delinquency on that INB account — the original missed payment that was never brought current — not seven years from when it was charged off, sold, or last updated. Transferring the account to another servicer does not restart it either. If INB or a later owner has moved that date forward, the re-aging is itself an FCRA inaccuracy and is worth disputing on its own, separately from whether you owe the balance.

Does INB appear in the CFPB complaint database?

We do not publish a complaint figure for INB. The CFPB database is keyed to company names that do not map cleanly onto FDIC certificate 3664, and attributing another company's complaint volume to this bank would be inaccurate. If you want to check for yourself, search the CFPB's public complaint database directly by company name. If you have an unresolved problem with this bank you can also file your own complaint there at no cost.

What is the difference between disputing with INB and disputing with a collection agency?

INB is the original creditor — the furnisher whose name was on the account when it was opened — while a collection agency is a third party that bought or was assigned it later. That changes your tools. Against a collector, FDCPA §809 lets you demand validation within 30 days of first contact. That right does not apply to INB; against an original creditor your leverage is the FCRA §623 accuracy duty. Different deadlines, different evidence — so check which party is actually listed as furnishing the account before you write, because sending the wrong letter to the wrong party wastes the clock.
