Acima on Your Credit Report
In short: Acima provides lease-to-own financing for furniture, appliances, tyres, electronics and similar retail goods, typically offered at the point of sale to consumers who do not qualify for conventional credit. It also participates in a credit card programme issued by a partner bank. Information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable can be disputed under the FCRA. Outcomes depend on what the furnisher can verify, and results vary.
Who Acima actually is
Who actually issues this credit
Acima is not a chartered bank. Acima's own disclosures state that the Acima Classic Credit Mastercard is issued by The Bank of Missouri and serviced by Concora Credit Inc., under a Mastercard license. No FDIC certificate is asserted for Acima because the charter belongs to The Bank of Missouri.
What makes this creditor different
Acima's core product is lease-to-own rather than a loan, which is a legally different arrangement from credit — and its card product is a third party's entirely, issued by The Bank of Missouri and serviced by Concora Credit. That three-name structure is why 71 CFPB credit-card complaints since January 2025 name Acima, led by a disputed purchase on a statement (16), for accounts a consumer may not have understood as credit at all.
How Acima appears on your credit report
Lease-to-own is not the same as a credit sale: ownership transfers only at the end of the lease or on early purchase, and the total paid can substantially exceed the retail price. Whether and how a lease appears on a credit report differs from how a loan appears. If an Acima obligation reports as a conventional credit account with a balance and payment history, check that the characterisation and the amounts match the agreement you actually signed.

Grounds to dispute a Acima entry
Each of these is a reason a Acima tradeline may be inaccurate or unverifiable. None of them assures removal — they are the angles worth checking on your own report.
- ◆Lease-to-own agreement reported as a conventional credit account
- ◆Card reporting under The Bank of Missouri or Concora Credit rather than Acima
- ◆Balance reflecting full lease cost after the goods were returned
- ◆Account balance or credit limit reported incorrectly
- ◆Payment reported late when it was made inside the grace period
- ◆Date of first delinquency re-aged to extend how long it can report
- ◆Account still reporting as open after it was closed, or vice versa
- ◆Duplicate tradeline for the same account after an internal transfer
- ◆Account belongs to someone else with a similar name, or is the result of identity theft
Disputing an original creditor is not the same as disputing a collector
Acima is an original creditor — the institution whose name was on the account when it was opened. That matters for two reasons. First, the FDCPA, which governs debt collectors, generally does not apply to a creditor collecting its own debt in its own name, so the “debt validation” request that works against a collection agency is not the right tool here. Second, as the furnisher of the tradeline, Acima has direct obligations under FCRA §623 to investigate a dispute you send it and to correct or delete information it cannot verify as accurate.
Dispute with the bureaus — FCRA §611
File with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. They must generally investigate within 30 days and tell the furnisher. Free, and you can do it yourself.
Dispute with the furnisher — FCRA §623
Send Acima a direct written dispute. It must investigate and must not continue reporting information it knows is inaccurate. Keep copies and proof of delivery.
Acima questions, answered
Is Acima a bank?
No. Acima is not an FDIC-insured bank and holds no FDIC certificate. Acima's own disclosures state that the Acima Classic Credit Mastercard is issued by The Bank of Missouri and serviced by Concora Credit Inc.
Why is Acima on my credit report?
If you leased goods through Acima at a retailer, or hold the Acima Classic Credit Mastercard, the obligation can be furnished to the bureaus. The name on the tradeline may be Acima, The Bank of Missouri, or Concora Credit.
What do people complain to the CFPB about most with Acima?
Of the 71 credit-card complaints naming Acima in the CFPB's public database since January 2025, the largest category is "Problem with a purchase shown on your statement" at 16, followed by "Fees or interest" (14). Snapshot taken 2026-10-17. These are public statistics about the company, not a forecast for your account.
How do I dispute a Acima account?
Dispute with all three bureaus under FCRA §611 and with the furnisher under FCRA §623. With a partner-bank program, check your report for the same debt appearing twice — once under the program brand and once under the issuing bank — because that duplicate is a common and genuinely disputable error. Send it in writing and keep copies; results vary with what can be verified.

Crowned Credit is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Acima; company names are used only to identify the institution a consumer may see on a credit report. Accurate, verifiable information generally cannot be removed from a credit report. You have the right to dispute inaccurate information yourself, for free, directly with the credit bureaus and with the furnisher.
