Current on Your Credit Report
In short: Current is a financial technology company offering fee-light banking, a secured charge card marketed as a credit-building product and savings features, with banking services provided by partner banks. Information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable can be disputed under the FCRA. Outcomes depend on what the furnisher can verify, and results vary.
Who Current actually is
Who actually issues this credit
Current is not a chartered bank. Current's own disclosures state that banking services are provided by Choice Financial Group, Member FDIC, and/or Cross River Bank, Member FDIC, that the Current Visa Debit Card may be issued by Choice Financial Group and/or Cross River Bank, and that the Current Visa secured charge card is issued by Cross River Bank. No FDIC certificate is asserted for Current because the charters belong to those partner banks.
What makes this creditor different
Current's own disclosures show the same consumer can hold a debit card issued by one of two banks and a secured charge card issued specifically by Cross River Bank — so one app can produce tradelines and deposits at two different institutions. The CFPB recorded 237 credit-card complaints naming Current since January 2025, led by a disputed purchase on a statement (123).
How Current appears on your credit report
Current's secured charge card is a credit-building product, which means the reporting is the point of the product. Because two different partner banks are involved across Current's products, a consumer may see an unfamiliar bank name on the tradeline. Confirm the account exists at each bureau and that the payment history matches your records.

What consumers report to the CFPB
These are counts of complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau about credit cards, from the CFPB's public complaint database. They describe the company's complaint history — they are not a prediction about any individual account.

Grounds to dispute a Current entry
Each of these is a reason a Current tradeline may be inaccurate or unverifiable. None of them assures removal — they are the angles worth checking on your own report.
- ◆Secured charge card tradeline missing from one or more bureaus despite on-time payments
- ◆Account reporting under Cross River Bank or Choice Financial Group rather than Current
- ◆Deposit-account negative balance reported as a credit delinquency
- ◆Account balance or credit limit reported incorrectly
- ◆Payment reported late when it was made inside the grace period
- ◆Date of first delinquency re-aged to extend how long it can report
- ◆Account still reporting as open after it was closed, or vice versa
- ◆Duplicate tradeline for the same account after an internal transfer
- ◆Account belongs to someone else with a similar name, or is the result of identity theft
Disputing an original creditor is not the same as disputing a collector
Current is an original creditor — the institution whose name was on the account when it was opened. That matters for two reasons. First, the FDCPA, which governs debt collectors, generally does not apply to a creditor collecting its own debt in its own name, so the “debt validation” request that works against a collection agency is not the right tool here. Second, as the furnisher of the tradeline, Current has direct obligations under FCRA §623 to investigate a dispute you send it and to correct or delete information it cannot verify as accurate.
Dispute with the bureaus — FCRA §611
File with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. They must generally investigate within 30 days and tell the furnisher. Free, and you can do it yourself.
Dispute with the furnisher — FCRA §623
Send Current a direct written dispute. It must investigate and must not continue reporting information it knows is inaccurate. Keep copies and proof of delivery.
Current questions, answered
Is Current a bank?
No. Current is not an FDIC-insured bank and holds no FDIC certificate. Current's own disclosures state that banking services are provided by Choice Financial Group and/or Cross River Bank, both Members FDIC.
Why is Current on my credit report?
If you used Current's secured charge card or credit-building features, that account is furnished to the bureaus. The tradeline may name Current, Cross River Bank or Choice Financial Group.
What do people complain to the CFPB about most with Current?
Of the 237 credit-card complaints naming Current in the CFPB's public database since January 2025, the largest category is "Problem with a purchase shown on your statement" at 123, followed by "Getting a credit card" (59). Snapshot taken 2026-10-17. These are public statistics about the company, not a forecast for your account.
How do I dispute a Current account?
Dispute with all three bureaus under FCRA §611 and with the furnisher under FCRA §623. With a partner-bank program, check your report for the same debt appearing twice — once under the program brand and once under the issuing bank — because that duplicate is a common and genuinely disputable error. Send it in writing and keep copies; results vary with what can be verified.
