MoneyLion on Your Credit Report
In short: MoneyLion is a financial technology company offering membership-based credit-builder loans, cash advances, deposit accounts and investing features, with banking services provided by a partner bank. Information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable can be disputed under the FCRA. Outcomes depend on what the furnisher can verify, and results vary.
Who MoneyLion actually is
Who actually issues this credit
MoneyLion is not a chartered bank. MoneyLion's own disclosures state that the MoneyLion Spend demand deposit account is provided by, and the MoneyLion Debit Mastercard is issued by, Pathward, National Association, Member FDIC, and that the MoneyLion Save account is provided by Pathward, N.A. No FDIC certificate is asserted for MoneyLion because the charter belongs to Pathward.
What makes this creditor different
MoneyLion's credit-builder product bundles a small instalment loan with a deposit account, so a single enrolment can generate both a loan tradeline and a bank relationship at Pathward, N.A. — the bank MoneyLion's own disclosures name. The CFPB recorded 15 credit-card complaints naming MoneyLion since January 2025, led by getting a credit card (5).
How MoneyLion appears on your credit report
MoneyLion's credit-builder loan is a real instalment loan reported to the bureaus, and it is frequently bundled with a paid membership. Consumers sometimes cancel the membership believing that closes the loan — it does not. An instalment loan continues to report, and continues to require payment, independently of the membership. Check that the loan status reflects your actual payment history rather than your membership status.

Grounds to dispute a MoneyLion entry
Each of these is a reason a MoneyLion tradeline may be inaccurate or unverifiable. None of them assures removal — they are the angles worth checking on your own report.
- ◆Credit-builder loan reported delinquent after a membership was cancelled but the loan remained
- ◆Account reporting under Pathward, N.A. rather than MoneyLion
- ◆Cash advance reported as a charged-off credit account
- ◆Account balance or credit limit reported incorrectly
- ◆Payment reported late when it was made inside the grace period
- ◆Date of first delinquency re-aged to extend how long it can report
- ◆Account still reporting as open after it was closed, or vice versa
- ◆Duplicate tradeline for the same account after an internal transfer
- ◆Account belongs to someone else with a similar name, or is the result of identity theft
Disputing an original creditor is not the same as disputing a collector
MoneyLion is an original creditor — the institution whose name was on the account when it was opened. That matters for two reasons. First, the FDCPA, which governs debt collectors, generally does not apply to a creditor collecting its own debt in its own name, so the “debt validation” request that works against a collection agency is not the right tool here. Second, as the furnisher of the tradeline, MoneyLion has direct obligations under FCRA §623 to investigate a dispute you send it and to correct or delete information it cannot verify as accurate.
Dispute with the bureaus — FCRA §611
File with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. They must generally investigate within 30 days and tell the furnisher. Free, and you can do it yourself.
Dispute with the furnisher — FCRA §623
Send MoneyLion a direct written dispute. It must investigate and must not continue reporting information it knows is inaccurate. Keep copies and proof of delivery.

How do I dispute a MoneyLion account?
Dispute with all three bureaus under FCRA §611 and with the furnisher under FCRA §623. Send it in writing and keep copies; results vary with what can be verified.
